Drop/Withdraw

Dropping a Course versus Withdrawing from All Courses

If you are registered in multiple courses during the summer and want to drop some but not all of your courses, you would be dropping individual courses.

If you are registered in one or more courses during the summer and want to withdraw from all of your courses, this means that you will be withdrawing from the University for the summer.

The procedures and refund polices for dropping an individual course when you are enrolled in multiple courses and withdrawing from all of your courses/withdrawing from the University are different, so please review them carefully. Check this Guide to Understanding Drop & Withdraw deadlines for an overview of key dates.

How to Drop a Single Course when Enrolled in Multiple Courses

Note: There is a difference between dropping a course when you are enrolled in multiple courses and withdrawing from all of your courses. If you want information about withdrawing from all of your courses, see “How to Withdraw from All Courses/Cancel Registration” below.

Students can drop a course and avoid getting a "W" (withdrawn) grade if they drop the course before the last day of Late Registration for the session in which the course was scheduled. The last day of Late Registration for the 4-week session is Wednesday, May 21, and for the 8-week session it is Friday, June 20.

If you drop a course on or before the last day of Late Registration for the session in which the course was scheduled and this results in a change in your tuition range, you will receive a refund of the tuition difference between the two ranges. No refund will be issued for a 4-week session course dropped after Wednesday, May 21, and no refund will be issued for an 8-week session course dropped after Friday, June 20.

If you have questions about dropping a course, contact the Registration Help Line at (312) 996-8600.
