Intensive English Program

How many students are in each class?
Most classes have between 10 and 17 students. The average size is 12 or 13.

How many levels are in the program?
There are 6 levels, from beginning to advanced.

What is an I-20? How do I apply for one?
To apply for an F-1 student visa, you need an I-20 form. The Tutorium issues I-20's to full-time students who qualify. To learn more, read The I-20 Process.

Which countries are most students from?
Students come from all around the world. Each session, students from more than 30 countries attend the Tutorium.

Are the courses for credit?
No. The courses we offer are non-credit. Most university programs do not count ESL courses toward a degree even if the ESL courses are for credit.

Do I need to take the TOEFL exam in order to apply to the Tutorium?
No. However, Tutorium students take the ITP TOEFL at the end of every session.

Where do Tutorium students live?
Most Tutorium students live off-campus in private apartments.
Campus housing and Homestay are also available to Tutorium students.

Is financial aid available? Is there a discount for US residents?
No. Financial aid is not available because our courses are noncredit. All students pay the same. There are no discounts for US residents.

We offer ESL instruction of the highest quality at very competitive rates.

Is health insurance necessary?
Yes. The University requires that all students have comprehensive health insurance. Before the session begins, students must show proof of health insurance, or they must buy UIC student health insurance through the Tutorium.

TOEFL iBT Preparation Course

Can students with intermediate English skills take the TOEFL iBT Preparation Course?
Maybe. This course is for high-intermediate or advanced students. Call our office, and we can help you decide if the course is appropriate for you.

English for International Professionals Series (EIPS)

Can students with beginning or intermediate English skills take an EIPS course?
No. These courses are for professionals with advanced English Skills who want to work on their skills in a specific area, for example, pronunciation, professional writing, or grammar.
