Mission
Statement
The
mission of the Tutorium in Intensive English is to

- Provide
English as a second language instruction that enables non-native
speakers to acquire the skills necessary to meet their academic,
professional, social, and personal goals
- Maintain
a model intensive English program in support of the UIC
master's degree program in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers
of Other Languages)
- Support
the profession of TESOL and contribute to knowledge in the
field
- Serve
as a campus and community resource for information about
the teaching and learning of English as a second language
and solutions to related problems
- Assist
the University in the development of international ties
- Advance
UIC's reputation for excellence and its image as an international,
multiethnic, multicultural, and multiracial learning community
To
achieve this the Tutorium will:
- Employ
a professional instructional and administrative staff
- Use
program resources to support
- services
and facilities that enhance the learning experience
of Tutorium students and students in the M.A. TESOL
program
- recruitment,
retention and professional development of Tutorium faculty
and administrators
- Maintain
a fiscally sound program
- Cultivate
and maintain a program atmosphere which fosters cultural
openness
- Uphold
the ethical standards of the profession
