Special Winter Break Courses
These Classes are open to non-native English speakers age 19 or older. They are not limited to UIC students.
Evening Courses
Vocabulary and Grammar for Conversation
Mon/Wed 6 - 8 p.m. (Nov 28 - Dec 14)
Covers important conversation phrases and grammar structures. Includes practice with functions such as asking for advice, saying "No" politely, offering help, and making suggestions
Fee: $275 ($250 for TIE and UIC community)
Daytime Courses
Speaking and Writing Skills for the IELTS and TOEFL iBT
Mon/Wed 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. (Nov 28 – Dec 21)
Practice with understanding and responding the types of speaking and writing prompts used in the IELTS and TOEFL iBT. Students receive individualized feedback and instruction on how to improve their spoken and written responses to test questions.
Fee: $ 475 ($450 for TIE and UIC community)
Reading Skills for the IELTS and TOEFL iBT
Tues/Thurs 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. (Dec 6 – Dec 22)
Practice with techniques for increasing reading speed and comprehension for the reading portions of the Academic IELTS and TOEFL iBT. Students learn test-taking strategies and ways to increase their academic reading vocabulary.
Fee: $ 400 ($375 for TIE and UIC community)
Conversation Skills
Tues/Thurs 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. (Nov 29 - Dec 22)
Designed for beginning level speakers of English. Offers instruction and guided practice in everyday conversation skills and survival English.
Fee: $350 ($325 for TIE and UIC community)
Online Courses
Online Reading Skills
This course is designed for intermediate to advanced students who want to improve their reading and vocabulary skills. This class will take place completely online, using the UIC Blackboard website.
Fee: $450 ($400 for TIE and UIC community)
