These classes are open to non-native English speakers age 19 or older. They are not limited to UIC students.

Course Offerings

Beginner to Low-Intermediate Level Courses

Introduction to the TOEFL and IELTS
Mon. - Thurs. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. (4 days/week) (December 1 - 18)
An overall introduction to the speaking and listening sections of the TOEFL and IELTS tests, the essay format required on the TOEFL and IELTS tests, and ways to increase reading speed, comprehension, and vocabulary for the reading sections of the TOEFL and IELTS tests.
Fee: $675 ($650 for TIE and UIC community)

Intermediate to Advanced Level Courses

TOEFL iBT Practice
Mon./Wed./Fri. 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (December 1 - 19)
Provides practice with all sections of the TOEFL iBT. Instructor helps students understand different question types and how to answer them correctly. Students also receive individualized feedback and instruction on how to improve their spoken and written responses to test questions.
Fee: $750 ($725 for TIE and UIC community)

IELTS Practice
Tues./Thurs. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (December 2 - 18)
Helps prepare learners for the Academic IELTS test. Students practice with techniques for improving test-taking strategies for all sections of the test and receive individualized feedback. Note: Students receive a textbook included in the price of the course.
Fee: $675 ($650 for TIE and UIC community)

Vocabulary and Grammar for Conversation
Mon./Wed. 1 - 3 p.m. (December 1 - 17)
Covers important conversation phrases and grammar structures. Includes practice with functions such as asking for advice, saying "No" politely, offering help, and making suggestions.
Fee: $350 ($325 for TIE and UIC community)
