TRIO Learning Strategy Sessions

TRIO has implemented Learning Strategy Sessions! During the course of the semester, we will partner with various university departments to produce workshops that will enhance your learning. You will learn different strategies that will help you matriculate through the university.

TRIO/ASP Kick Off:

All 160 participants are invited to come and meet one another as well as TRIO/APS staff as the semester begins. This is a great opportunity to meet other students who you have seen around campus or even in your classes and just haven’t had the opportunity to formally meet. The Kick-Off gives us a chance to PLAY FUN GAMES, WIN GREAT PRIZES and eat FREE FOOD!

Homework Roundtable Sessions:

TRIO/ASP provides a quiet and comfortable atmosphere for studying without any external barriers. The Homework Roundtable Sessions are always located in the Student Center East Building. Sessions begin at 4:00 PM and conclude at 8:00 PM. A comparative study indicated that students who attended these sessions (on a regular basis) increased their G.P.A. from last semester. Not to mention, students who attended the sessions increased their chance to win an Apple I-Pod Nano.
Homework Study Sessions

Midterm Rewards:

TRIO/ASP believes that students who study hard and excel academically should be rewarded for their effort. The Midterm Reward is a fun event for TRIO/ASP participants who have provided TRIO staff with documentation with a grade of a “B” or better on a midterm exam. Students must RSVP for Midterm Reward events because these are ticketed events and seats are limited.

ILAEOPP Student Conference:

The Illinois Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (ILAEOPP) hosts an annual Student Leadership Conference for TRIO students. If you have great leadership skills or if you want to develop leadership characteristics, then you should apply for the ILAEOPP Student Conference. TRIO/ASP typically funds four to seven students for this conference. If you are interested in participating, please make an appointment with your TRIO Academic Advisor. The Student Leadership Conference will be held at The Chateau Hotel Bloomington, IL on April 17-19, 2009 so mark your calendars.
