SHORT-TERM EXECUTIVE TRAINING PROGRAM

The University of Illinois at Chicago is one of only a few major state universities in the United States to offer short- and mid-term management training programs tailored for Chinese government officials.

Since 1986 more than 7,000 Asian professionals representing various functional areas of government and business completed degree and non-degree programs at UIC. The UIC short-term programs are recognized by the Chinese State Bureau for Foreign Experts. These programs, offered in English and Chinese, are from three weeks to one year long and are held in Chicago. The short-term training program is intended for candidates who have been selected by their government because of their strong career potential and may hold key positions. All participants in the short-term training programs are financially supported by their government.

The majority of our programs specialize in management, human resources, financial markets/trading, international business, accounting, hospital management and law. However, UAEDP short-term training programs are tailored to meet the needs of the particular group or individual based on input from the home government sponsor and US counterpart, the trainee(s), and the UAEDP. Candidates are interviewed in their home country by UAEDP staff to assess the applicant’s goals and suitability to the program, as well as to determine if UIC will be able to meet the needs of the trainee.

A typical training schedule requires eight, three (3) hour blocks per week attending lectures at UIC and other institutions of higher learning in Chicago. Links with top government institutions, professional associations, and businesses in the US provide the opportunity for faculty-led professional visits, seminars and/or internships with government and private corporate offices in Illinois. All participants in short-term training programs, regardless of area of professional interest, dedicate approximately 20% of their training on the study of American society. A research paper (in either Chinese or English) is required of all trainees whose study extends beyond 3 months. While participating in a short-term training program, all trainees have unlimited library and computer access. A certificate of completion is awarded to all trainees who successfully complete their short-term training program.
