Fire Walkers


Thank you for your interest in joining Fire Walkers, the Wellness Center’s first walking group for both students and employees of UIC.

PROGRAM REGISTRATION HAS NOW CLOSED!!!

You pick your walking goal. You set the pace. We provide the inspiration and support. Participants will receive a complementary Starter Packet including: personal fitness journal, motivational materials and pedometer.

Every week you’ll receive an inspirational and informational e-mails offering nutrition and exercise tips. The Wellness Center will help you keep track of your progress as you send us weekly updates. We’ll be there to celebrate you every step of the way!

To become a Fire Walker complete and fax the registration form to 312-413-8438 or e-mail to UICfirewalkers@gmail.com. You’re invited to join as an individual or as a team. Space is limited.

The program will run from Monday March 15 – April 15, 2010 and kick-off with an orientation meeting Monday March 15th from 12:00 to 1:00 at the Wellness Center located in Student Center East, 750 S. Halsted Street Room 238 (located in the Inner Circle behind Burrito Bravo). If you are unable to attend the orientation Wellness Center staff will schedule a special session for you.

Wellness Workshops


"Fit for Life" - Not sure if you should eat a high-fat/low-carbohydrate diet! What exactly is a serving size? Can 20 minutes change your life? Having trouble sorting through dieting myths, making healthy food choices, and motivating yourself? This workshop can help you make the choices that are right for you!

This and other Wellness Workshops are available for residence halls, student groups, classes, and community organizations. These programs are facilitated by trained wellness peer educators from the student organization WAVES.

National Nutrition Month – Every March, the Wellness Center provides specialized nutrition workshops in recognition of National Nutrition Month.

Fitness and Nutrition Events


The Wellness Center provides up to date information on fitness and nutrition at a number of weekly and annual campus events, including the following:

Unity Walk – Walk for Unity. Walk for Fun. Walk for Wellness. This event is a celebration of the diversity of our campus and brings the campus together through a fun walk through the UIC neighborhood.

Wellness Wednesday Booth - Each week, the Wellness Center provides the UIC community with a wealth of health-related information, on topics ranging from lung cancer and tobacco use to alcohol and sexually transmitted infections.

Wellness Jam – This event is a wellness fair that focuses on educating students, faculty and staff about ways to address the eight dimensions of wellness. On and off campus agencies, student groups and departments provide participants with a variety of wellness information.
