WAVES MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
WAVES, which stands for Wellness Advocates Volunteer ing
to Educate Students, is a student organization advised by the
Wellness Center. WAVES works with the Wellness Center
to provide UIC students with a healthy resource they feel they
can
trust through peer education. Peer education is based
on the idea that students will respond well to health issues
and events when their peers are promoting it.
WAVES Presentation Members are trained peer
educators who can present on a number of topics that are pertinent
to
college
students. The workshop topics they present range anywhere
from
sexual health to stress management and beyond, and can be developed
or modified to meet the needs of the group requesting the
workshop.
Some members of WAVES are simply volunteers helping
out the organization and the Wellness Center. There is always
the
opportunity to become a peer educator, but for those who may
not feel comfortable presenting on health topics may volunteer
for the organization. Volunteering may include activities such
as staffing wellness booths, promoting the organization, and
planning organization activities and events, amongst other
things.
