Peer Wellness Workshops are available for residence halls,
student groups, classes, and community organizations. These programs, facilitated
by trained wellness peer educators from the student organization WAVES,
cover the latest information on alcohol, relationships, contraception, Sexually
Transmitted Infections (STI), HIV/AIDS, stress, and much more.
"This Round's on Us" focuses on ways to be responsible
with alcohol. At this interactive workshop, you will discuss the role that
alcohol plays in the lives of UIC students, discover the truth about alcohol
myths, and learn about the consequences of alcohol use, misuse and abuse.
Do you think you still have good judgment after a few drinks? Look through
our "booza-vision" goggles and guess again! This is a fun yet informing
workshop that engages an audience while also educating them.
"Cover Your Lover". Find out why oil is a no-no. Learn
how whip crème could be costly. Did you know that condoms are not just for
men anymore and that sexually transmitted infections (STI's) can be transmitted
orally as well? If not, come learn about the latest in birth control, STI's
and protection. Cover Your Lover is a wellness workshop that provides answers
to your sexual wellness questions including relationships, contraception,
abstinence, and STI's.
"Stress: The Eye of the Storm". The train
delay the morning of your exam, computer problems the night before a big
paper is due, the roommates who expect you to clean up after them… we all
deal with stress every day. Join us for this workshop and learn to identify
stress and its effects, and discuss stress management tips and relaxation
techniques which will help you throughout the school year.
"Fit for Life". Not sure if you should
eat a high-fat/low-carbohydrate diet! What exactly is a serving size? Can
20 minutes change your life? Having trouble sorting through dieting myths,
making healthy food choices, and motivating yourself? This workshop can
help you make the choices that are right for you!

Tobacco use is the most common preventable cause of death. The US Surgeon General has stated, "Smoking cessation (stopping smoking) represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives." Through this workshop participants can learn to develop trigger plans to quit smoking, learn about proven strategies for smoking cessation and get resources to help them quit successfully.

“Acupressure is an ancient healing art using the fingers and other parts of the body to skillfully press key points, which stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these trigger points are pressed, they release muscular tension, and promote circulation of blood, and the body's life force energy to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same pressure points and meridians, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses gentle to firm pressure and integrates bodywork therapies, therapeutic touch, somatic work, healing imagery, energy psychology, and massage therapy techniques. Acupressure's healing touch reduces tension, increases circulation, and enables the body to relax deeply. By relieving stress, acupressure therapy strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness. Learn self-acupressure point formulas for various energy imbalances and healing applications.” (http://www.acupressure.com/)
