Neena Hemmady is currently the Director of Environmental, Health, & Safety for ComEd where she manages a team of 40 professionals in the areas of environmental services, safety, and human performance. Neena has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) and a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She has a partner of 10 years (Joy Wright) and 2 young children (ages 6 and 7). Joy and Neena are proud adoptive parents – they adopted their son and daughter from Nepal and India respectively.
Neena is active in her community – and has been actively engaged in issues impacting the South Asian community, as well as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community. She is the co-founder of Khuli Zaban, an organization for Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender South & West Asian women in Chicago. Some past activities include serving on the Advisory Council on Gay and Lesbian Issues (ACGLI; the Chicago Commission on Human Relations; and the board of the Crossroads Fund for 10 years.
