Shirley is the Manager of Studio Programs at Marwen, an organization that educates and inspires under-served young people through the visual arts. She believes art is a vital vehicle for education. It is this perspective which drives her to merge the arts with social justice to have a resonating impact on social change. Shirley has a background in theatre and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has nearly a decade of experience working toward social change for organizations such as the Southwest Youth Collaborative, Logan Square Neighborhood Association, Gallery 37/After School Matters and Clemente High School. She is a founding member of Tres, a collective dedicated to multidisciplinary creation, discussion and education.
