Our innovative and award-winning faculty include pioneers who have shaped the fields of women's and sexuality studies. They have expertise in a wide variety of academic disciplines, combining research in history, sociology, anthropology and other fields with gender and sexuality studies. They bring a comprehensive and transnational lens to the historical and contemporary study of the impact of gender on everyday experience and society's institutions. This is framed within larger contexts, including race, economic status, and sexual identity. GWS students, faculty and staff enjoy a sense of community with others who share an interest in gender scholarship and benefit from Chicago 's vibrant opportunities for enrichment and activism. UIC is a public research institution located in the heart of metropolitan Chicago, with an outstanding reputation for celebrating diversity, civic engagement and community partnerships. |
