Give to Gender and Women's Studies

Donations to the Gender and Women's Studies Program provide scholarships and awards for GWS students and support our programs on gender, sexuality, and feminist scholarship for the campus and Chicago community. At a time of diminished state funding, these programs and awards depend on the generosity of our alumni, friends, and supporters.

Donating to any of our funds is easy and convenient through the form below, which links to a secure website at the University of Illinois Foundation that accepts credit card donations.

If you'd like to discuss your donation or create a new fund to honor your mother, teacher, or some other important person or cause, please contact the Director, Barbara Ransby, at bransby [AT] uic [DOT] edu.

GWS Civic Engagement, Community Service, and Community Organizing (CECSCO) Award

In the summer of 2010 The Gender and Women’s Studies Program at UIC will launch the CECSCO (Civic Engagement, Community Service and Community Organizing) Student Scholarship Award, as a companion to our alumnae and affiliates CECSCO recognition award, which is in its second year. The scholarship will support students who share a vision of social justice, engaged research and activism. The $2,500 awards will be given to UIC students or recent (within three years) graduates who demonstrate an outstanding passion for civic engagement, community service and community organizing with an emphasis on improving the lives of Chicago area women.

The scholarship will provide a stipend for students to work at summer internships with grassroots and non-profit organizations of their choice. We hope that the scholarships will provide our student recipients with opportunities to gain useful hands-on experience in fields they are interested in and committed to, and will offer practical support and services to community organizations working on critical social issues related to women, gender and sexuality, including, but not limited to, poverty and economic disparity, race, disability, environmental issues, peace, international solidarity and immigration.

This year we hope to raise $10,000 for four summer scholarships. Please help us launch this exciting initiative and give a vote of confidence and encouragement to young people, who, in different ways, are lending their energies to effort that will change and improve the world we live in.
