Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program
The program encourages graduate studies by providing participants with a mentored research experience, seminars and workshops on topics germane to the pursuit of the doctoral degree, and opportunities to meet and work with role models who have obtained the terminal degree.

Summer Research Opportunities Program
The Summer Research Opportunities Program is an intensive experience where undergraduate students are paired with faculty mentors who have similar academic and research interests. Working with their faculty mentors, the SROP participants develop a project, collect data and present findings via a symposium and a final research paper. SROP participants also attend supplemental workshops, seminars and a conference- all designed to promote successful selection, entry and completion of graduate school.

UIC Student Research Forum
The Undergraduate Research Symposium is a forum to showcase independent research undertaken by undergraduate students at UIC and is in association with UIC student research forum. This is a student-run and organized event which continues to receive strong support from the UIC Office of the Dean, the UIC Honors College, the UIC student government and the UIC chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society. Typically 60-80 poster presentations are presented at this event on a wide variety of topics in the arts and sciences.

Honors College
The UIC Honors College enhances opportunities for intellectual challenge and leadership by fostering a community of academic excellence, connecting outstanding undergraduate student with premier faculty mentors and promoting scholarly engagement. By bringing together exceptional undergraduate students, faculty and staff, the Honors College provides and environment for advanced intellectual growth and a foundation for life-long learning.

Honors College Undergraduate Research Assistant Program
Honors College Students who have completed their freshman year can participate formally in faculty research as a way of satisfying the honors requirement. UIC has a wealth of outstanding researchers, and the Undergraduate Research Assistant Program gives honors students an opportunity to work with some of them. The range of research activity is wide, including business, education, engineering, the humanities and the arts, the natural sciences and mathematics, and the social sciences.

Chicago Area Undergraduate Research Symposium
This annual event is held each spring and allows hundreds of undergraduates from six outstanding Chicago area universities the opportunity to present their research results in a professional setting. Any undergraduate student conducting research, from the sciences to the humanities, is invited to submit an application and abstract.
