IN DEVELOPMENT
THE WEST:
Myth v. Reality
The
Curriculum
This unit will start with an analysis of mythic
representations of the West in Hollywood,
and then move
on to compare the myth with the reality as told through geo-spatial
economic
data on the West. Students will
understand that the West is not monolithic, but quite diverse
(including Asian
and Hispanic ethnic groups), and that in addition to cowboys and
Indians, there
was also an incredible amount of railroad business & construction,
mining,
agribusiness, etc.
