Project MORE Service Projects

In addition to their work with the Center for Literacy AmeriCorps, Project MORE collaborates with other AmeriCorps programs and community organizations to implement several service projects during the year. Over the years, Project MORE participants have worked with many different groups around the city, expanding their service opportunities and working to transform their communities.

In 2010, AmeriCorps members helped plan, develop, and implement a Green Literacy Workshop for parents. The GREEN LITERACY WORSHOP PACKET includes:

* Discussion on recycling
* Facts on the impact of recycling
* Recycling activity for parents and children

Project MORE in collaboration with the Garfield Park Conservatory also implemented a "Battery Recycling Project ". Battery recycling bins were provided by the City of Chicago Household, Chemical and Computer Recycling Center.

2009 / 2010 projects included:
•Chicago Public Library Bookamania Festival, where members help teach literacy activities, arts and crafts, and dress up as children’s book characters for fun interactive theater.
•Make a Difference Day. Project MORE and AmeriCorps Project YES! participants break out rakes, shovels and brooms to help beautify their community
•Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day. MLK Day is a Day On for Project MORE serving families in Chicago area shelters
