Who We Are

The UIC Center for Literacy is a research and service center established in 1991 to increase literacy research at the University of Illinois at Chicago, establish innovative literacy programs through partnerships with external public and private institutions, and provide research-based information to policymakers and others in the community. Through the Center, UIC researchers work in multidisciplinary teams to bring a wide range of expertise to bear on complex literacy issues. Center staff and faculty associates collaborate with local literacy providers to develop and evaluate model programs that increase educational opportunities for individuals and families in Chicago while also increasing our understanding of how such programs can be more effective. The Center also provides technical support and serves as a clearinghouse for local and national literacy information.
