New UIC-ERF Staff

Moving into a new school year is saying goodbye to some veteran UIC—ERF staff and hello to others. We welcome four new Research Assistants, Jocelyn Shadforth, Jessica Meland (former Teacher Assistant at St. Dorothy School and now in the UIC Early Childhood graduate program), Melanie Walski, and Paula Barajas. Jocelyn will run high-powered statistical analyses, while Jessica, Melanie, and Paula will be busy with child assessments, PD, and other classroom-related activities.

We also welcome Dr. Katie Mooney who will be coordinating the various classroom investigations that we will be conducting during the 2011-2012 school year. Katie brings a wealth of experience from her work in charter schools and from her research on early literacy intervention and on UIC’s Partnership READ.

Finally, we appreciate the summer internship work that Liz Gracia, teacher assistant at St. Pius School did this summer. Her contributions were first rate and deeply appreciated by all the UIC–ERF staff.

We say goodbye (sadly) to Katie Paciga (RA), Lauren Hogel (RA), and Gabrielle Nidus (Literacy Coach). Katie, who recently completed her PhD, is now an Assistant Professor at Purdue University, Calumet. Lauren is a Literacy Coach in the Berwyn schools. Gabrielle has moved to the exciting climes of San Francisco. They were all outstanding contributors to UIC—ERF, and they will continue to make their mark in early education.
