Project FLAME 1999-2000 Quilt
This quilt symbolizes the spirit of the project. It is the result of collaborative efforts of seven Chicago area FLAME sites. Children and their parents completed squares to illustrate what learning and literacy meant to them. It now hangs in the LARES office in the Students Services Building (SSB) on the UIC campus.

Project FLAME is an academic excellence literacy program that has been specifically designed for the LEP (limited English proficient) family. It is based on the belief that parents can have a positive effect on their children's learning and school achievement through a supportive home environment and by serving as confident, successful learner models. Moreover, we believe that successful family literacy is achieved through being sensitive to the social, linguistic and cultural contexts of the families served.
