REQUIREMENTS IN THE TEACHING DISCIPLINE - CHEMISTRY

A student  seeking secondary education certification in Chemistry through entitlement at UIC must complete the requirements for the major field of study as described in the appropriate section of the current undergraduate / graduate catalog.  Previous coursework taken in this field is evaluated by a faculty advisor in the Chemistry department.

Secondary Education Chemistry Requirements

In addition to the requirements specified for a major in Chemistry (which include supporting courses in Mathematics and Physics), a student must complete student teaching.  Attendance in the day is necessary for the semester in which this requirement is completed.

1.   Chemistry Methods Courses

2.      Education Practice with Seminar I and II, (Chemistry 470, 6 semester hours and Chemistry 471, 6 semester hours).  One semester (16 weeks) of full-time supervised teaching.
