Gwendolyn D. Gibson has a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis, an M.A. in Early Childhood Special Education and a B.A. in Chemistry. She is a certified cognitive education trainer -- Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment with Mediated Learning Experience (FIE/MLE) -- and currently teaches FIE/MLE. She has taught at the graduate school level, and the pre-college level from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade with an emphasis on teacher professional development and family education.

She is currently the Principal Investigator for the ABLA Community Scholars Project of the Early Outreach Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Jacob Javits Gifted and Talented program. Its focus is to identify gifted and talented "minority" underachievers and provide opportunities for them to further develop their abilities, as well-rounded capable human beings.

The ABLA Community Scholars Project is comprised of three components: an in-school teaching component in two elementary schools located near UIC, a graduate course for teacher-practitioners, and a family workshop component.
