I am very pleased to share with you today's Department of Energy announcement of a major new energy research initiative at Argonne National Laboratory in which UIC will be a partner along with other major universities and national laboratories. The Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR) will be directed by Argonne senior scientist George W. Crabtree, who is distinguished professor of physics and electrical and mechanical engineering at UIC.
UIC is proud to be a partner in a project of this scope to meet a crucial national need for a game-changing technology. Professor Crabtree is the ideal person to lead it, backed by the intellectual resources of UIC, particularly our physics and chemistry departments and the College of Engineering, and so many other leading researchers around the country.
Congratulations and thanks to Professor Crabtree, Vice Chancellor for Research Mitra Dutta, and everyone involved in this important and exciting endeavor.
