Results of the Chancellor's Cluster Initiative to Increase Diversity
We are pleased to announce the results from the Chancellor's Cluster Initiative to Increase Diversity and the Interdisciplinary Culture at UIC, Year 1, Phase 2.
Six proposals were submitted in response to the RFP. Each one showed creative and collaborative thinking. The proposal selected for funding is entitled Health Promotion for Racially and Ethnically Diverse Older Adults; with principal investigators Dr. Susan Hughes, School of Public Health and Dr. Tamar Heller, College of Applied Health Sciences. The proposal calls for the hiring of five faculty in five academic departments within the two colleges, and will serve to strengthen both the Center for Research on Health and Aging and the Institute for Health Research and Policy.
This cluster will bring together outstanding interdisciplinary faculty who share the common goal of improving health promotion for older adults, our most rapidly growing population. The faculty will focus particularly on the fastest growing segment of the elderly population, namely African American and Latino adults. The selection committee envisioned this proposal as one that would increase the diversity of our faculty while also growing translational and engaged research at UIC.
We thank the many individuals who collaborated to submit proposals for this initiative. Their efforts are the source of UIC's unique strength. Finally, we are especially grateful to the members of the review panel, listed below.
