Web Accessibility Checklist
The UIC Web Accessibility Committee has prepared a simple procedural checklist to help Webmasters test sites for accessibility and isolate issues. Once you have completed the checklist, if you still have problems you are welcome to email accessweb@uic.edu for assistance.
1. Validate your HTML and CSS and make corrections from your results.
HTML Validator
CSS Validator
2. Run the Functional Accessibility Evaluator (FAE) on your site and make corrections from your results. ACCC is providing training workshops for the FAE on a regular basis.
3. Read the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act Implementation Guidelines for Web-Based Information and Applications 1.0 and make corrections. The Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act Web Developer Testing Checklist 1.0
can help guide you. Also, the IITAA View of Best Practice Rules site can help when running the FAE and evaluating the results according to the IITAA Guidelines.
ACCC Training workshops are also being provided concerning IITAA Guidelines.
4. Make sure you have Webmaster Contact statement on the bottom of the template of your site with a link to the email of the Webmaster contact. This helps ensure accessibility for legacy Web sites. (Use the Accessibility Template to help)
Here is the wording needed for the contact statement:
