The UIC Poetry Festival is the first event in the Chancellor's Lecture and Event Series of the 2014 - 2015 academic year and it is sure to be a great one! Come out and enjoy lectures and readings by some of Chicagoland's most talented and award winning poets. Light refreshments will be served!

The Molding of the Arts in America via the African American Experience: the Arduous Expedition from Sambo to Rodolfo, Tamino and Othello
Reception and lecture by George I. Shirley, the J. Edgar Maddy Distinguished, University Emeritus Professor of Music (Voice) at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance. Mr. Shirley is one of America's most versatile tenors and a Grammy award winning artist. He is nationally and internationally renowned as a performer, teacher and lecturer.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available at Lot 14 (entrance on Union Avenue and Rochford Street), and the Maxwell Street Parking Structure, 701 West Maxwell Street. RSVP to Teresa Soto Plutz at teresas@uic.edu.
