Crime alert
On May 12, around 10 p.m., a UIC student was the victim of a strong-arm robbery as he skateboarded off-campus in the 1300 block of West Polk Street.

The victim stated that he was approached from the rear by four offenders, and he attempted to flee. The offenders gave chase and caught up to him when he crashed into a parked car. The offenders punched and kicked the victim, taking money, a laptop computer, cell phone, and identification. The student was not seriously injured and refused medical attention.

UIC Police offer the following security tips:

--be aware of your surroundings
--try to travel in groups when possible, particularly after dark
--use well-lit walkways
--on campus, look for the location of the nearest emergency call box (there are more than 1,500 across campus)
--the emergency number for UIC Police is 5-5555 or 312-355-5555, which should be set on speed-dial on your cell phone
--report crime promptly to police

The UICPD/CPD Joint Robbery Task Force will conduct the follow-up investigation.

The offenders are described as follows:

1. Black male, 17-19 years old, 5-9 to 5-11 in height, dark complexion, thin build, wearing an olive hoodie
2. Black male, 17-19 years old, 5-9 to 5-11 in height, dark complexion, thin build, wearing a gray hoodie
3. Black male, 10-13 years old, 5-1 to 5-3 in height, medium complexion, wearing a red hoodie
4. Black male, 10-13 years old, 5-1 to 5-3 in height, wearing a black hoodie

Crime alert
On May 24, before 11:30 p.m., two female UIC students were victims of an attempted armed robbery off-campus in the 1300 block of West Lexington.

The victims stated that five male subjects had walked past them when one offender doubled back from behind. He grabbed one victim's book bag as the other victim fled. The first victim clung to her pack, and the offender produced a handgun and pointed it at her face. When the victim screamed, the offender fled the scene without the pack. Both victims returned to their apartment and, because they were distressed, delayed reporting this incident for over 15 minutes. They did not suffer physical injury.

***UIC Police strongly recommend COMPLYING with an armed offender whose intent appears to be property or valuables. UIC Police also recommend REPORTING CRIME PROMPTLY to police.***

The main offender was described as a black male in his 20's, 5-11, 160 pounds, of medium complexion, with black hair. He was wearing a gray hoodie and in possession of a black semi-automatic handgun. His cohorts were described as two to five black males, all in their 20's.

CRIME ALERT
MESSAGE FROM UIC POLICE

At 12:15 p.m. today at 716 S. Oakley, a UIC employee was the victim of an armed robbery. The employee was approached from behind by two male offenders. The first offender struck the victim on the left side of her head with a chrome-plated semi-automatic pistol, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The offenders then took the victim's shoulder bag containing her wallet, cell phone, cash, identification card and other items, and fled on foot. The victim sustained a laceration to the head and was transported to the Medical Center for treatment. A search for the offenders by UIC Police and Chicago Police met with negative results.

The first offender is described as a slender black male, 18-20 years of age, wearing a black jacket and black baseball cap. The second offender is described a black male, 18-20 years old, wearing dark clothing and a backpack.

On June 4, just after 4 p.m., a UIC student was the victim of an attempted strong-arm robbery as he was walking off-campus in the 900 block of South Loomis Avenue.

The victim stated that he was approached from the rear and attacked by a lone offender. The offender attempted to take the student to the ground in an effort to take the student's belongings. The student resisted, and during the ensuing struggle the offender gave up his effort and fled southbound on Loomis toward Roosevelt Road. The victim sustained minor injuries for which he refused medical attention.

Crime Alert
On August 26, at 3:20 p.m., a UIC student was the victim of a strong-arm robbery as he was walking off-campus in the 1200 block of South Blue Island Avenue. The victim stated that he was approached from the rear and attacked by a two juvenile offenders who threw the student to the ground and punched him in the face as they took his cell phone and cash from his cargo pocket. The offenders fled on foot northbound on Hastings.

The student suffered cuts and bruises to the face and was treated by Chicago Fire Department paramedics but refused medical transport.

CRIME ALERT
A UIC student was the victim of a battery early this morning. The student was walking at 840 W Roosevelt Rd at 2:15 a.m. when a man emerged from a dark blue four-door vehicle and punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground. The offender got back into the vehicle and fled westbound. The victim is undergoing treatment for a broken jaw at the UIC Medical Center. A search for the offender by UIC and Chicago police proved negative. The offender is described as a male black, 25-30 years old, 5-10, 160-170 pounds, wearing a dark shirt.
