The UIC Medical Center, in cooperation with NewsChannel 5 and Walgreens, has completed the 1997 Colorectal Cancer Screening, the Chicago area's largest colorectal screening program.

Colorectal cancer affects men and women equally and has a mortality rate second only to lung cancer. However, advanced colon and rectal cancer can be prevented if the cancer is diagnosed early enough. This program aimed to raise public awareness about this deadly disease and to demonstrate how a simple, at-home test can make the difference between a simple treatment that might cure cancer and provide a better quality of life, and radical medical procedures and treatments for advanced cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.

If you mised the free screening, please ask your doctor for a hemoccult test. Use this site to find out more about colon and rectal cancer, as well as what you can do to help fight it.
