ABSTRACT
How can we capture information for an Electronic Patient
Record so that the care-content best expressed in ordinary
language is preserved, and so that expert systems, acting as
intelligent agents, can work on these data efficiently? SGML
is a software approach that promises to be more
encompassing and more forgiving with respect to the
management of complex real-world information than other
information strategies. It deserves the attention of the
healthcare community interested in the Electronic Patient
Record.
