Prof. Laura Hosteler of History and Global Asian Studies will be presenting "Bridging Worlds: Reflections on a Journey" at the UIC Global Asian Studies Department Colloquium.
Dr. Hostetler is currently working on a memoir based on a year spent in a former British hill station in north India. The work engages problems related to economic oppression including indebtedness, substance abuse, and domestic violence as well as themes of cultural encounter, finding voice, religious belief, tolerance, discernment, and forgiveness. Dr. Hostetler will introduce the content of the work, lay out some of the methodological issues involved in bridging memoir and academic writing, and share excerpts from this work in progress.
