ARTivism: Environmental Justice For Puerto Rico

April 17, 2018

12:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Presented by the UIC Latino Cultural Center
Join us for an open art studio with Richard Santiago to create art in support of Puerto Rico’s efforts as they reimagine, recover, and rebuild after Hurricane Maria. Santiago is concerned with the existence of humankind in a world increasingly disconnected to the natural environment. Let’s delve in discourse, learn of action steps, and contribute your creativity to a collective art piece!
Richard Santiago is a renowned Puerto Rican painter and university professor at the Escuela de Artes Plasticas y Diseño de Puerto Rico (School of Visual Arts and Design of Puerto Rico). Santiago has worked in a myriad of mediums seeking different forms of expressions such as film, music, sculpture, graphic arts, and design, among others. Santiago received a BA in Fine Arts from Marist College in New York and a MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore under the tutelage of Grace Hartigan. Santiago is currently a Resident Artist at the Puerto Rican Cultural Center in Chicago.
