Dr. Sten Grillner, Professor and Director of the Nobel Institute for Neurophysiology at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, earned his MD and PhD (in Neurophysiology) at the University of Göteborg in 1969. His research has contributed substantially to our understanding of the central nervous system, and his exploration of the cellular bases of motor behavior has established him among the world’s elite scientists. Dr. Grillner served as chairperson of the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institutet, the committee that awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Dr. Grillner is an active member in the Academia Europaea, Royal Swedish Academy of Science, National Academy of Science (US), and the Institute of Medicine (US).
