Presented by the UIC Latino Cultural Center and Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement
Join us for an open art studio* with Vicko Alvarez to design your own comic strip in preparation for the Illinois Primary Election 2018. Contribute your creativity to comic templates to be distributed throughout campus and placed in your home and car windows. Get the opportunity to co-create a collaborative comic page and showcase why voting is important. Get informed, take action and encourage others to vote!
Vicko Alvarez is a Chicago based Tejana, visual artist, creator and illustrator of the ScholaR Comics web series. The comic is based on her childhood as well as the lives of the students she’s had the privilege of teaching in Chicago’s Southside. The stories touch realities of growing up poor in an immigrant home while also maintaining pride in your community.
