NCAA Recertification of UIC Division I intercollegiate athletics program
On August 18, 2011, the NCAA announced that UIC's Division I intercollegiate athletics program had earned the highest rating of certification following a comprehensive campus self-study and review by the NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification. The self-study included an in-depth evaluation of UIC's athletic program in the key areas of governance and commitment to rules compliance, academic integrity, and gender equality, diversity, and student athlete well-being. After reviewing the submitted self-study report and corroborating data, UIC's intercollegiate program was recertified by the NCAA without conditions, and that a peer review site visit was not needed. This outstanding result is due in great part to the superb efforts of many, a few of who I would like to recognize here.
Special thanks to Jennifer Woodard, Chair of the Steering Committee, and the sub-committee chairs, Caryn Bills, Manny Pollack, and Donna Williamson. Athletic staff members Tonya McGowan, Sam Rush, Molly Sullivan, and Denny Wills provided critical self-study support. Mick Crumbock was invaluable in his role as self-study report writer and coordinator. And I want to extend my gratitude to Karen Coicou for taking on the critical role organizing meetings and communicating information to the committees. Congratulations to all who contributed to the outstanding success of the NCAA recertification effort.
