Chancellor Message 3/23/12

Message to Campus
RE Appointment of Robert Easter as University President

As many of you know, President Hogan submitted his resignation yesterday, effective on July 1, 2012. Michael Hogan came to the University at a very challenging time and worked tirelessly and earnestly to advance the excellence of the University of Illinois and its three unique campuses. I want to take this opportunity to thank him for his diligence and best efforts in this regard. We wish Mike and his wife, Virginia, our very best as they move on to the next chapter of their lives.

The appointment of Robert Easter as the next President of the University of Illinois is an excellent decision. I have known Bob since we were faculty members on the Urbana campus. Since I became Chancellor at UIC in 2009, he and I have worked together very closely, particularly during the period in which he served so ably as Interim Chancellor of the Urbana campus. Bob has been a wonderful friend and collaborator on many initiatives. He is a highly accomplished scholar and proven administrator: thoughtful, supportive and fair.

Bob has already contacted me and plans to visit UIC very soon to meet with members of our community and deepen his understanding of UIC. I look forward to working with him and with the other two Chancellors in his new capacity and hope you will join me in congratulating Bob and wishing him well.

UIC will always stand for access to excellence and success, committed to transformative impact through research, pedagogy, clinical care and service. We remain strong, and we will continue to weather these challenging times as we always have -- looking forward, doing our best, and striving for excellence. I want to thank each of you -- faculty, students and staff -- for your hard work and dedication to keeping UIC in the forefront. I am deeply appreciative for your continued support and best efforts on behalf of UIC.
