Message to Campus
RE search committee for the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Dear Colleagues and Members of the UIC Community,

I am pleased to announce the search committee for the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. This search follows the departure of R. Michael Tanner after eight years of distinguished service and leadership as he starts a new chapter in his career as a faculty member in the College of Engineering on January 15, 2011.

The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the second-in-command and chief academic officer for the UIC campus reporting to the Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the Chancellor's principal advisor on campus budget matters, and along with the other vice chancellors and the leadership of the University of Illinois Hospital, plays a major role in developing strategic academic priorities as the campus advances its programs of instruction, research, and service. All deans, as well as the University Librarian, are supported by and accountable to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

The search committee membership is listed below. R. John Solaro, Distinguished University Professor and Head, Department of Physiology and Biophysics, has graciously agreed to chair this search.

The search committee will be meeting shortly and more information about the search and the position will be communicated to the campus at that time. I am confident that, with your support, the committee will be able to identify an outstanding set of finalists for interviews in early spring.
