Chancellor Message 8/31/11

Dear Colleagues and Members of the UIC Community,

I am pleased to announce the search committee for the Vice Chancellor for Research. This search follows the appointment of Joe G.N. "Skip" Garcia as Vice President for Health Affairs.

The primary responsibilities of the vice chancellor for research are to provide leadership and promote excellence and the continued growth of our research enterprise, encourage and support investigators, facilitate multidisciplinary projects, seek out new sources of funding, and guarantee the ethical, informed and safe conduct of research. The vice chancellor for research is the chief academic officer responsible for assuring academic integrity and our compliance with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to research.

The search committee membership is listed at the end of this e-mail. Jerry Bauman, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, has graciously agreed to serve as chair.

More information about the search and the position will be communicated to the campus as the process gets underway. I am confident that with your support the committee will be able to identify an outstanding set of finalists for interviews in early spring 2012.
