FY12 recipients for the Chancellor's Discovery Fund for Multidisciplinary Research

We are pleased to announce the FY12 recipients of the Chancellor's Discovery Fund for Multidisciplinary Research. This program was established to support new multidisciplinary collaborations led by emerging researchers at UIC; foster academic inquiry; nurture the research career trajectories of promising early-stage investigators; and help the recipients leverage extramural funding. Thirty-seven applications were reviewed by the Campus Research Board, and the following faculty teams have been named this year's awardees:

Seungpyo Hong, Assistant Professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences, and Joanna Burdette, Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy: "Ovarian Cancer Prevention and Therapy Using Polymeric Nanocarriers Targeting Follicle Stimulating Hormone and Mullerian Inhibiting Substance."

Jung-Hyun Min, Assistant Professor of Chemistry; Anjum Ansari, Professor of Physics; and Benjamin Ramirez, Research Assistant Professor and Director of the NMR Facility, Center for Structural Biology: "Patrolling the Genome: How DNA Repair Proteins Probe and Capture DNA Lesions."

Shaolin Yang, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry; Scott Cotler, Professor of Medicine; and Winnie Mar, Assistant Professor of Radiology: "In Vivo Assessment of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Composition in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease by Two-Dimensional Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy."

Ying Liu, Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering; Richard Gemeinhart, Associate Professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences; and Ludwig Nitsche, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering: "Dual Functional Polymeric Particles Combining Photodynamic Therapy with Chemotherapy for the Treatment of Glioblastoma Multiforme."

Tracy Baynard, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Nutrition, and Samuel Dudley, Professor and Section Chief of Cardiology: "Sex Specific Differences in Ventricular-Aerial Coupling during Hyperglycemia in Heart Failure."
