September 1, 2012, marks the 30th anniversary of the creation of the University of Illinois at Chicago with the merger of the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle and the University of Illinois Medical Center. To celebrate this event, a Symposium will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., Student Center East, 750 South Halsted Street, Chicago. Joining us will be President Emeritus Stanley O. Ikenberry, former UIC Chancellor Donald N. Langenberg, former UIC Chancellor and University of Illinois President James J. After welcoming remarks by University of Illinois President Bob Easter and UIC Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares, Professor Burt Bledstein, UIC History Department, will show us a remarkable image presentation entitled "UIC History, Legacy, Promise, and Brand." This will be followed by a panel discussion about the historic merger with Presidents Ikenberry and Stukel and Chancellor Langenberg moderated by Dr. Fred Beuttler, former Associate UIC Historian. The Symposium will conclude with an overview of research breakthroughs and innovation at UIC since 1982 delivered by Nancy Sullivan, the Director of the Office of Technology Management.
