Larry Danziger
Larry H. Danziger, Pharm.D., is currently serving as Interim Vice Chancellor for Research of the University of Illinois at Chicago as well as professor of pharmacy practice, Co-Director of the Section of Infectious Diseases, College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice. Prior to his appointment as the Interim Vice Chancellor, Danziger held the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Research from 1999 to 2007. In this position, he was responsible for most of the day-to-day operations of the OVCR, including research compliance, sponsored research project administration, human subjects and animal care protection and conflict of interest and commitment.
Danziger's experience and background include a wide range of positions. In Cleveland, he was clinical practitioner in surgery at the University Hospitals of Cleveland and research associate at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, Department of Surgery. He later served as pharmacotherapist in surgery/critical care and infectious diseases at the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. Danziger also served as chair of the University of Illinois at Chicago Human Subject Investigation Research Board from 1995-1999.
Danziger has both a B.A. in History and B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Illinois. While earning his Pharm.D. from the University of Cincinnati, he completed a residency in hospital pharmacy at the Cincinnati Veterans Administration Hospital.
Danziger is an elected member of the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists, the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the Surgical Infection Society. He is also a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the American Society for Microbiology, and the American Society of Health System Pharmacists.
He has authored or coauthored over 100 journal articles and 18 book chapters, mostly focusing on the appropriate use of antimicrobial agents. Danziger is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Infectious Disease Pharmacotherapy and Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Danziger has trained over fifty post doctoral Infectious Disease Pharmacy Fellows.
Danziger was the recipient of the first Pharmacoeconomics Award awarded by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and was the recipient of the 1999 Research Award of the Society of Infectious Pharmacy.
Danziger's research interests include basic and clinical research regarding both new and old antimicrobials.
