Disability Scholar Named
Science Fellow

Gary Albrecht, professor in the School of Public Health and College of Applied Health Sciences, has been elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The honor is bestowed on members whose "efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically distinguished." Founded in 1848, the American Association for the Advancement of Science is the world's largest federation of scientists. Albrecht was recognized for his distinguished contributions in the areas of political economy of human disability and rehabilitation and for empirical studies of the well-being and quality of life of disabled people. Albrecht has received continual research funding for thirty-one years, totaling $24 million. He has received numerous teaching and research awards and has published fifteen books. His most recent book, Handbook of Disability Studies, published in June 2001 with substantial funding from the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research, is being used as an essential teaching and research resource for disability studies around the world. |
