Establish and support interdisciplinary research among the different colleges by addressing fundamental problems in science and engineering that are significant to society and require a multidisciplinary approach. Our efforts are directed at developing advanced multimaterial structures, smart sensor devices, materials integration strategies, and processing techniques, and understanding their impact on human health and the environment. We intend to create research niches in areas related to health, energy, environment, and homeland security with emphasis in nanotechnology.
Our focus is to promote active research cooperation among UIC researchers and set the foundation for outstanding research, intellectual latitude, strong interdisciplinary commitment, and the flexibility necessary to address scientific and industrial research opportunities that necessitate a combined effort from several academic fields. Ultimately, our objective is to provide not only a functional medium to enhance technical and scientific interdisciplinary collaborations within UIC and among outside university and national laboratory partners, but also provide a doorway for local industry to explore new commercial avenues in the emerging nanotechnologies developed by ISEMRG.
