The Jane Addams College of Social Work
The Jane Addams College of Social Work is named after the Illinois-born pioneer of American social work who founded the internationally famous settlement house known as Hull-House, which became one of the leading centers in the development of the profession of social work. Hull-House, today a national landmark is now part of the University of Illinois at Chicago, which is centered near the heart of Chicago (UIC). The UIC campus is centered in the heart of Chicago, approximately one mile west of the downtown business district.

Careers
Graduates of UIC's master's of social work excel as practitioners, caseworkers, administrators, policy advocates, and community organizers in a variety of settings. Working with diverse populations, graduates address the circumstances of children and families in agency, school and community settings; as well as persons with severe and persistent mental illness; individuals with acute and chronic health problems, including HIV/AIDS; persons who abuse alcohol and drugs; and individuals involved in the criminal justice system, including their families and children. Graduates are known for their ability to work at both the clinical and community levels.
Doctoral students are prepared for careers in teaching, research, administration, and social policy. Most social work doctoral graduates teach at colleges and universities or hold positions as agency executives. Smaller numbers work in research positions and direct practice.

The Jane Addams College of Social Work is home to more than 400 graduate students pursuing master's and doctoral degrees. Students come to the college from the Chicago metropolitan area, other parts of the United States and other countries.
