Alice K. Johnson Butterfield is a professor at the Jane Addams College of Social Work, University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Johnson is the author of more than 35 journal articles and book chapters, many of which are devoted to policy and service delivery for homeless families, community practice, and international social work education. She is co-author of a forthcoming book, The Dynamics of Family Policy (Lyceum Press). She also has had a long-time interest in international social work. She has been a visiting professor at the University Eotvos Lorand in Budapest, Hungary . Her international research includes the emergence of the nonprofit sector and child welfare organizations in Romania and participatory community development in Ethiopia . Since 2001, she has been Principal Investigator of the Social Work Education in Ethiopia Partnership (Project SWEEP), a university-to-university partnership resulting in the first-ever MSW and PhD graduate degrees in social work and social development in Ethiopia [http://www.aboutsweep.org ]. In 2006, the Addis Ababa University and the University of Illinois at Chicago won the Partners in International Education Award from the Global Commission of the Council on Social Work Education. She has also made numerous conference presentations on various topics, including internationalizing the curriculum, globalization, international social work education and civil society development. She is co-editor (with Tracy Soska) of University-Community Partnerships: Colleges and Universities in Civic Engagement. (2005) and co-editor (with Yossi Korazim-Korosy) of Interdisciplinary Community Development: International Perspectives (2007). Dr. Butterfield is the national Coordinator of Operations & Administration for the Association for Community Organization and Social Administration (ACOSA), and a member of the Council on Social Work Education's Commission on Global Social Work Education. In 2007, Dr. Butterfield received the Distinguished Alumni Award from her alma mater, Washington University in St. Louis .
