an intimate concert with Hindustani musicians

This stimulating afternoon of music will include a brief introduction to Hindustani music by Nikhil Trivedi and performance reception with light refreshments will be provided before and after the concert.

Seating is limited and will be available on a first come first serve basis.

Neeraj Prem has performed widely at various venues and auspicious occasions solo as well as with other great masters touring as far as Africa, Europe, North America, India. As president of Ustad Vilayat Khan music foundation, New Delhi, he has been promoting upcoming and deserving artists by putting his talent to good (charitable) causes. He has organized concerts in aid of the National Foundation for Communal Harmony, an organization working under the wings of the ministry of home affairs for the children affected by the riots in India. Through CBC Radio, he has been sharing his work as well. Believing in his work, he also runs the Raga Music School which caters to students in Toronto and surrounding areas.

In Canada, Neeraj has also been fortunate and honoured by various organizations. He is on the board of directors for one of the frontline organizations in hamilton for immigrant artists, Immigrant Culture and Arts Association (ICAA). he has also been a member of the selection committee for Ontario Arts Council (OAC). He has commissioned himself to the promotion, inculcation and sowing the seeds of classical and world music among the youth of today and virtually affected a renaissance of indian classical music in the wake of the new millennium. This has led him to associate closely with schools and young children at different levels and spheres.

Neeraj's debut musical album, Sounds of India, which was recorded in both India and Canada, has been one of the best sellers in the music community and has also recently been awarded Dofasco Hamilton Music Awards for special instrumentalist of the year, and best cultural recording of the year. Neeraj has also been honored by the prestigious Pandit Nikhil Banerjee award by Sangeet Bhawan (Lucknow) for the year 2005.

Ajit Acharya began his tabla training at the age of 14 under the tutelage of Shri Sheshagiri Rao of Bangalore, India. For over a decade thereafter, he studied tabla accompaniment with Dr. Rajan Sachdeva, one of the most respected and prolific music teachers in the midwest. Over the years Ajit has given many tabla lecture-demonstrations and solo performances all over the country. He has been privileged to accompany a multitude of talented instrumentalists (sitar, sarod, flute, violin and sarangi), as well as vocalists and dancers.

in an effort to spread knowledge of Indian music, Ajit systematically teaches beginning and intermediate tabla students with patience and utmost respect for the art. He continues his own lifelong tabla apprenticeship under the guidance of Pandit Samar Saha, a highly respected tabla player and lecturer at the Sangeet Research Academy in Calcutta, India. Pandit Saha is a seniorexponent of the benares school of tabla playing -- a style marked by clarity, sweetness, elegance and power.
