1st Annual Jane Addams Birthday Celebration: Conversations on Peace and Justice

Wednesday, September 06, 2006

Celebrate Jane Addams' efforts in both opposing militarism worldwide and of working in our neighborhoods to create the conditions for peace to flourish. Kathy Kelly, who helped initiate Voices in the Wilderness, shares experiences from her recent trip to Beirut to participate in unarmed civilian resistance efforts organized by Lebanese people; Beth Richie, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Gender and Women's Studies at UIC, links issues of oppression from a feminist, anti-racist perspective; and Dawn Dalton discusses her work with the Domestic Violence Court Advocacy program of Uptown Center Hull House.
