Freedom Lost: Gaza Under Siege; Featuring personal
stories of loss by Craig and Cindy Corrie and Amer Shurrab

The speakers will be sharing their experiences of loss and the human
impact of the siege in Gaza.
Cindy Corrie is the mother of human rights activist and observer
Rachel Corrie who on March 16, 2003, was killed by an Israeli military
Caterpillar D9R bulldozer in the Gaza Strip as she tried to prevent
the demolition of a Palestinian family’s home. Motivated by her
daughter's work and sacrifice, Cindy Corrie has dedicated herself to
the pursuit of justice and peace in the Middle East and has visited
Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza on numerous occasions. In 2009, she
made two trips to Gaza, the first in March with a Code Pink delegation
that traveled from Egypt through Rafah crossing to challenge the siege
and to witness the aftermath of Israeli military attacks in December
and January. Her second visit was in September 2009, when she and her
husband, Craig Corrie, led the first Rachel Corrie Foundation
Delegation. “Rachel wrote of the importance of making commitments to
places and initiated this one to Rafah and Gaza. The commitment Rachel
made continues,” said Cindy Corrie.
Amer Shurrab is a Palestinian peace activist from Khan Younis in Gaza.
Amer studied at the United World College of the Adriatic in Duino,
Italy and Middlebury College in Vermont. Amer has been speaking across
the country about the devastation that struck his family during the
Israeli siege of Gaza in January 2009. Ever since, Amer has been
calling for justice for his family and all the victims of the Israeli
assault on Gaza in the Winter of 2009.
