Presented in collaboration with the Smart Museum of Art, theDuSable Museum, and the National Museum of Mexican Art, this three day institute introduces educators to techniques used in museums to analyze and interpret American art with the goals of developing close reading, critical thinking, and other skills emphasized in the Common Core State Curriculum.
Additionally, classroom teachers will hear from teacher teams who have developed curricula on the themes of identity, movement, and migration as part of the Terra Foundation's American Art at the Core of Learning project. Teachers will practice incorporating looking strategies into their own classroom and will have time to develop lessons using American art as a foundation.
