The hottest ticket in town isn't Lollapalooza. Music lovers this is where you want to be: "Let's Get Working" a concert that is part of the city-wide, three day, Studs Terkel festival.
Labor activists at the turn of the century used protest songs to spread their message, a tactic that allowed workers to tell their own stories and broadly disseminate the ideals of the movement. The Studs Terkel Festival, the Logan Center for the Arts, the Hideout, and the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum have asked diverse musicians from across the city of Chicago to use the lyrics, music, and stories of five iconic labor songs as inspiration for new music. The project will culminate in a performance at the Logan Center on May 10, and will live on as part of the next Unfinished Business exhibition at Hull-House. *Legendary folk singer Ed Holstein will close the evening, performing three of Studs Terkel's favorite songs
