Redes en Acción : Cancer Awareness Training and Research Network-North Central/Midwest Region

LHRC fostered the creation of the Redes en Acción: Cancer Awareness Training and Research Network network which conducted and promoted Latino cancer research, trained Latino cancer control investigators, and promoted cancer education and awareness activities. This network resulted from a partnership with the National Redes en Acción Center at Baylor College of Medicine in San Antonio , Texas through a five-year grant from the Special Populations Branch of the US DHHS NIH National Cancer Institute (NCI). Redes en Acción also addressed the barriers to recruitment and retention of minorities and women in clinical and prevention trials while also providing effective strategies to overcome the issue. Along with the Redes en Acción project, LHRC assisted in the development of a National and Midwest Cancer and Latino Agenda, under the leadership of Dr. Amelie Ramirez, National Principal Investigator, Baylor College of Medicine.
