Chandana Nandi is Assistant Director for Policy and Resource Development currently involved with developing grant proposals, assisting with CEED activities for the elimination of disparities with diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and evaluation of the national Latino Tobacco Control Network. Nandi brings over 23 years of public health experience with expertise in nutrition education and assessment, program planning and development, grant management and program evaluation.
Prior to coming to the Center, she served as Chief, Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control at the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) for four years providing leadership, administration and management of division operational activities including grant writing, monitoring awards, program planning, evaluation, communications, and financial and human resources. The division included twelve federally funded programs and three state mandates. Nandi managed over $18.5 million annually and 23 employees. At IDPH, she also served as manager of the Illinois Diabetes Prevention and Control Program for 11 years and Public Health Nutritionist for 7 years. In addition, she taught patients with diabetes at an outpatient clinic and obese patients participating in OPTIFAST, a weight management program.
Nandi has an MS in Nutrition from the University of Illinois at Springfield and is a Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association. She holds a license to practice nutrition in the State of Illinois and has completed a Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management sponsored by the American Dietetic Association. Nandi has authored many federal grant proposals and received grant awards in the public health areas of maternal and child health, tobacco control, obesity prevention, and chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease/stroke and asthma.
